Compadre Records returns with Texas Outlaws, the third release in a series of successful compilations inspired by the Lone-Star state. Texas Outlaws features 18 tracks including several architects who defined the 1970s Outlaw Movement along with current Texas young guns who are fueling the modern outlaw comeback.
The album boasts brand new music from several of Texas' most successful young artists. Two Texas upstarts tip their hat to Waylon Jennings with covers of a couple of his most well known tunes. Cooder Graw flaunt their outlaw side on "Ain’t Livin’ Long Like This" and Jack Ingram showcases his roadhouse snarl on "Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line." Not to be outdone, Roger Creager gives it his outlaw best on his rocking version of Steve Earle’s "Guitar Town."
The original outlaws get their chance to show the young guns how the West was won. In a career that includes some incredible and sometimes unusual duets, Willie Nelson surprises his fans again by making his rap debut. He joins Texas-based hip-hop star Lil’ Black on "Back on the Road." Nelson opens his rhyme book and holds his own on the urban update of his classic hit, "On the Road Again." Texas music legend Billy Joe Shaver proves he can still boogie with the best of ‘em with an unreleased 2002 live version of "Georgia on a Fast Train," a longtime staple of his live shows and one of his most popular tunes.
Other highlights include Robert Earl Keen’s "Whenever Kindness Fails," Reckless Kelly’s "Rodeo Man," and Pat Green’s "Me and Billy the Kid."
Houston-based Compadre Records is home to artists such as Billy Joe Shaver, Hayes Carll, and Mike McClure. Prior Compadre compilations include Texas Road Trip and Brewed In Texas.
